The Will's Creek Competition & Exhibition of Fine Art is one of the signature events of the Allegany Arts Council, celebrating contemporary art in a variety of mediums. Now, more than 20 years since its inception, the show continues to stretch the boundaries of contemporary art that reflect the issues that shape our world. We received nearly 450 entries in this year's competition, the most in our 23 years!

‘Unforeseen Treasures’

Once home for a living sea creature, this Lightning Whelk seashell was long ago abandoned and tossed on the ocean floor. Time and wind and waves and sand and sea creatures have all exerted their force upon this shell to transform it into something unique and unrepeatable.  Shells, composed mostly of calcium carbonate, are surprisingly strong, yet under the power of nature, they change. ‘Unforeseen Treasures’ is a unique art piece that continues the metamorphosis of this whelk.
