‘Folklore & Fairy Tales’

63rd Annual Pemian Basin Juried Art Exhibition

May 27- August 8, 2021

Ellen Noel Art Museum 4909 E. University Blvd in Odessa, Texas

Artists were asked to explore different Folklore or Fairy Tales in their artwork. This was an especially fun theme to work with and has resulted in a very engaging exhibition with a wide variety of stories depicted in the art.

This is the story of ‘After the Maelstrom’ ….

“A beautiful mermaid was given a shell by her beau.  After a fierce disagreement, she threw the treasure into a maelstrom where it was tossed about wildly.  He rushed into the storm to retrieve it.  Seeing his fierce devotion, her heart softened.  As they reconciled and their hands touched the shell, and grace touched their hearts, both they and the shell were transformed.  THIS is that shell.”
